FossaLab Technologies is a business and community organisation supporting social enterprise.

Founded in 2016 FossaLab acted as technical support and a community innovator at the Platt Bridge Community Zone (Wigan) alongside social enterprises, charities, community groups, businesses, and residents to tackle and address local community needs, and inspire much-needed innovation through consultation, technical creativity, and artistic pursuits.

Moving through 2017 FossaLab will have a primary focus on artistic pursuits via point of sale educational outreach, and the creation of 3D/CAD content for showcasing and sale to all consumer and industry sectors.

LATEST 3D ART & PROTOTYPES

Items showcased are in development works, for sale, and or for training purposes.

Jonathan Curley – Fossa3D (F3D) created a Photo Frame pen holder to be 3D printed on the Ultimaker 2 and sold through Fossa3D Ltd via online stores and local market stall events.

This item is essentially a 3d printed 3 piece photo frame, with an optional pen holder insert.

Likely future adaptions to the design will include a remodelling of the back inserts for optional storage types, an integrated LED lamp and or lighting strip, 3d printed PLA/Plastic/Glass front cover with an inside recessive groove, LED “custom text” strip, optional clip-on covers, glow in the dark backlighting.

While still in the prototype stage it’s hoped this item will develop as FossaLab gains receipt of and or access to new and innovative 3D printers.

FossaLab (Jonathan Curley – Fossa3D) created a base model (prototype) to be used by students to build & modify designs around.

Initially, to be 3D printed on the Ultimaker 2+, we aim to develop this print and it’s future modifications to be compatible with a clay/glass 3D printers.

Likely future adaptions to the design will include various side handles, embossing recesses for the application of custom designs, borders and other interesting features, as well as the mandatory application of a made in Wigan disc appropriately attached to the bottom. What else can we say? it’s a Bottle/Jug.

While still in the prototype stage it’s hoped this item will develop as FossaLab gains receipt of and or access to new and innovative 3D printers as mentioned above.

FossaLab (Jonathan Curley – Fossa3D) working in collaboration with Carl Bridden, created a candle holder to be 3D printed on the Ultimaker 2+, and sold as part of the Made in Wigan brand via online stores and local market stall events.

FossaLab refined a base model (prototype) that was initially created in Tinkercad by Carl Bridden, and then remodelled by Carl from scratch in DAZ3D Hexagon during an educational training session.

We aim to 3D print this item in PLA, Metal, Clay, Wood, and have our partners cast it in recycled aluminium, as well as hand the design to future partners to create the item through traditional manufacturing techniques.

This item will also be considered a base model (prototype) to be used by students to build, modify and redesign.

FossaLab (Jonathan Curley – Fossa3D) created a 5 sided box base model (prototype) to be used by students to build & modify designs around.

Initially, to be 3D printed on the Ultimaker 2+, we aim to develop this print and it’s future modifications to be compatible with traditional moulding techniques for rapid manufacturing.

FossaLab (Jonathan Curley – Fossa3D) working in collaboration with Carl Bridden, created a seed pop to be initially 3D printed on the Ultimaker 2+, and sold as part of the Made in Wigan brand via online stores and local market stall events.

FossaLab discovered a video about decomposing lollipop sticks that contain seeds, that reduce waste and create new plant life after having served its purpose, having shared the video with Carl Bridden we decided to develop the conceptual idea around 3d Printing.

While still in the prototype stage it’s hoped this item will develop as FossaLab gains receipt and or access to new and innovative 3D printers, to enable us to print food safe decomposing filament with an attached edible filament “lollypop” head.

FossaLab (Jonathan Curley – Fossa3D) created a bow tie to be initially 3D printed on the Ultimaker 2+, and sold under Fossa3D via online stores and local market stall events.

While still in the prototype stage it’s hoped this item will develop as FossaLab gains receipt and or access to new and innovative 3D printers, to enable us to print in flexible clothing filament/materials, and advanced manufacturing techniques.

FossaLab has taken the lead in a number of community projects, outreach initiatives, and pilot schemes..

In 2016 FossaLab took part in a pilot scheme, primarily focused on teaching basic modelling skills and 3d “program” spatial awareness to under 13 teens through the use and application of Tinkercad to create Chrismas themed items.

It was hoped the 2016 pilot scheme would lead to afterschool sessions to build upon their basic modelling skills and 3d “program” spatial awareness gained through Tinkercad.

FossaLab is looking for volunteers, schools, and new innovation partners moving forward through 2017-2018, when we aim to lead a second pilot scheme, primarily focused on undertaking a shorter Tinkercad course and building upon the previous pilots knowledge to develop their modelling skills through levelled training paths in Tinkercad, Hexagon 2.5, with a rapid progression into Fusion 360 and beyond.
